PAVE FAQ's
Frequently Asked Questions About the Pave Program

Which campuses can I attend?
PAVE classes are located at the Downtown campus only.

Will my credits transfer over to another program at J. Sargeant Reynolds or other institutions?
Besides the SDV100 class which all new J. Sargeant Reynolds students complete, credits earned within PAVE cannot transfer to any other degree program at the college or other institutions.

Can family members be references for my application packet?
We prefer that you use acquaintances familiar with your ability to function professionally, academically, and/or socially. We are interested in hearing the opinion of teachers, supervisors, case managers, or counselors.

I have a Special/IEP Diploma. Can I practice for the ability-to-benefit test or retake it if I don’t pass?
You can take the test once every four months. A student guide can be found here, http://www.act.org/asset/pdf/guide.pdf.

Can I apply for PAVE online?
No, PAVE requires additional materials to be considered for admission. The J. Sargeant Reynolds application is available to complete online; however, our application packet must be filled out and returned. Please do not fax application packets or supporting documents to our office. However, you can mail the entire packet to our address:
PAVE, PO Box 85622, Richmond, VA 23285.

When are classes held?
Classes are only held during the day Monday through Friday during the fall and spring semesters. We do not offer any summer courses.

How large are the classes?
The classes are generally small with no more than 15 students per class.

Will financial aid be available?
You must apply for financial aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Contact your school guidance counselor or the J. Sargeant Reynolds’s  financial aid office.

Can I start the program during the second semester?
Because students enter with a cohort of their peers, all new applicants will start their courses in the fall semester.
