Getting Started In Distance Learning
Before You Register for classes
- Complete the
application
to the college.
- New and program students: Consult with an
access
center specialist,
academic advisor, or the
Center for Distance Learning
(CDL) coordinator. Self-advising students: Check program requirements
and course prerequisites in the
college catalog.
- Take
placement tests and discuss
results with a
Success Center specialist
or academic advisor.
- Select Distance
Learning course(s) and check the
college’s schedule for the date
and time for the required on-campus meeting(s). NOTE: Be sure that
you can make the required meeting(s) before registering for the course.
- Register for distance learning courses at a campus
Success Center, by telephone
using REYNET at (804) 371-3308, or by logging into
MyJSRCC and selecting
Student Information System. Distance learning courses are
identified with a DL in the section. Be sure to check the section
notes for any required on-campus meetings and other information.
After You Register for classes
- If you are a first-time distance learning student,
complete the interactive Distance Learning
Orientation - CDL 001 - online.
- Contact the Center for Distance Learning at
distance-ed@reynolds.edu or
804.523.5612 and ask to be enrolled in CDL 001 – Orientation
to Distance Learning. You'll need to supply your username or
emplid to be enrolled.
- Log into MyJSRCC
and select Blackboard. Select CDL 001 - Orientation to Distance
Learning from the My Courses list.
- Read instructions found in “Announcements”, which is
the first page that opens in the orientation course.
- Complete all activities under “Assignments”.
- Email your
current instructors to let them know you’ve completed the Orientation
to Distance Learning
- Check the section notes to see if there are required
on-campus meetings for your classes in the
current college
schedule. There you will find meeting date, time and place.
If you cannot make the face-to-face, required meeting, you will need to

- Develop your study plan and follow it!
Student Blackboard Information
Blackboard is the course management system used for
distance learning courses. For additional information on how to use
